After almost a year, I have compiled a collection of names. Not in Spanish (those require a separate post), but in English. There are some names of which you think about and they automatically remind you of customer service reps:
Andrea
Amy
Angela, and especially Angie
Anna, Annie and especially Anita
Bridget
Carol
Christy
Cindy
Corrina (unlikely, but it definetely goes in the list)
Craig
Crystal
Danielle
Debbie
Diane
Donna
Elizabeth
Erica
Felicia (another one I wouldn't have guessed to be in this list)
Jennifer
Kathy, and all its variants
Kevin
Kim
Linda
Lisa
Mary and Maria
Michael
Michelle
Rhonda
Sherry, or Cherry, or whatever
Sue
Theresa
I do have a list with all the names that have crossed my path, but the ones above are too common. But the Oscar goes to.... DAWN! I don't know what was the matter with baby boomers (assuming, from their voices and vocabulary, that these Dawns are 25-30 years old), what soap opera was a fad back then or what. Once, a Spanish-speaker said, after explaining that her case nurse's name was Dawn: "Oh, yes, I understand. Like the dishsoap!"
Did someone notice the common denominator in this list? Vaginas. It is not as common for a guy to work at over-the-phone customer service as it is for a gal. And the industry in which there are more guys is banking.
Do you want to know if your name is too common? Leave a comment. Really, I do have a list.
